Boeing and Airbus

There’s not much to add to the spurt of articles about Boeing’s pivot from an engineering company to an MBA company. But one tiny bit, almost a throw away line in The Economist’s write up of it caught my attention:

Boeing has not turned an annual profit since 2018. It lags behind its European arch-rival, Airbus, in orders for short-haul jets by 4,800 to 7,300

Wait, what? I thought the whole point of these deadly quality shortcuts was to make money.

Lo and behold, Airbus is actually turning a profit these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boeing is deemed too big to fail, and too important for US national security to not get a massive bailout when the time comes.
