Compassion and expectations

Still continuing on my low energy theme.

One of the most compassionate things you can do for someone who is low energy” is set very clear and reasonable expectations. Attend every meeting, camera on, deliver projects on time.

Yet I find that when suggesting this, people think you’re some kind of monster.

Instead, they do the whole oh I feel bad for X, let’s not bother him.” Meanwhile, these same people are the ones putting the low energy person on PIP and laying the groundwork to fire him.

The tough love trope is overused, but there’s nothing wrong with expectations. And being able to routinely, confidently hit them is a way to start crawling out of the low energy cycle.
